Nestled within a pastoral tidal wetlands landscape, this Agrarian Modern composition finds itself bridging the gap between the land and the water. The home is situated to take full advantage of the unobstructed bay views over the protected wetlands, enjoying a living backdrop of a constantly evolving landscape of fluctuating tides. Water gardens, a custom pool that projects out into the landscape and a hand-dug channel in the marsh reinforce the house’s connections to the waterfront environment. The floor plan and proportions of this home are a modern interpretation of the “Shotgun House” typology which was instituted as a creative design solution to the constraints of the narrow buildable envelope of land outside of the preservation area. This design strategy allows for a sequence of spaces flowing along a main axis of circulation that takes full advantage of the northerly and eastern water views.
