Inspired by 1930’s local Palm Beach architect John Volk, this Palm Beach, FL project embraces casual traditionalism, with an informal nod to British isle elegance. The stucco home is symmetrical, featuring pointed arch chimneys and a robust entry door. Bespoke architectural features become immediately noticeable, such as limed cypress exterior rafter tails, a second-floor loggia, and the large corner window that provides a glimpse of the beautiful staircase inside.
At the rear, loggias and covered porches provide respite from the ever-changing elements – which also call for expertly discreet storm shutters, seamlessly tucked into the large, elliptical arches of the main loggia – flanked by the refreshing lap pool and bold, sculptural art. The elliptical arches mirror a wall of French doors, bringing an indoor/outdoor feel while maintaining utmost comfort. This open, seamless flow continues through the home.
The gracious curved stair leads to the second floor. Upstairs, beautifully appointed bedrooms, including the modest primary suite and terrace, as well as his and hers dressing rooms – allowing the bedroom to be a relaxing oasis, separate from the hustle and bustle of the morning routine. The primary bathroom is a show-stopper, with large soaking tub, custom vanity, fritted glasses shower and WC enclosures – and a can’t miss view of the back area. The design was born from the desire for a comfortable yet stunning home, fitting the classic Palm Beach home aesthetic, that was not imposing, yet designed for generations of family to escape and enjoy.
